Excerpts from Endless Love Quenched
A night’s drive, a mysterious conversation with a gypsy king, and the strange ritual written down on the notebook which was on the car dashboard; none of these things could stop the sun from rising. And with the rising sun, came Landry’s undoing. That was if he wasn’t able to get to Duncan’s house before he burned. He looked over at Maya who was still catatonic and unresponsive to his touches.
He turned the corner, and the car fish-tailed but he corrected his course. He could see the house just ahead and just in the nick of time as the sun’s rays had reached the street he was on. Had he not covered most of his skin up, the sun would be starting to fry him.
The car skidded to a stop in front of Duncan’s just as the sunrise beamed, brightly down the entire street. Landry grabbed Maya and snapped the chains in a hurry to get her out of the car. He then carried her with lightning speed, across the yard, onto the porch and into the house. Smoke rose from the uncovered skin on his face as his skin burned a little, and then it completely stopped once inside and the burn healed immediately.
He placed Maya carefully down on the couch so he could text Corrin and Duncan. He needed to let them know where he was and that he had talked to the gypsy king about helping Maya but all he had was a notebook with some instructions or whatever.
“Oh no!” Landry grabbed at his chest, feeling for the notebook as he remembered that he’d removed it from his jacket so that he could drive better. That meant the notebook was still in the car. He would have to wait until Duncan came so he could get it from the car. So he quickly composed two messages for both Duncan and Corrin and pressed send.
Duncan arrived at his house, notebook in hand just twenty short minutes later. Landry stood next to a now levitating Maya.
“Oh shit! Not this again! How long has she been like this?”
“This just started, mate. Did you bring the notebook from the car? Maybe it will tell us how to stop this.” Landry extended his hand and Duncan handed him the notebook which Landry hastily opened. “Alright…it says…Devil’s circle? And…bond the soul…”
“Well are you going to tell me or not, Landry?”
“Oh sorry, still reading…demon’s lock! There I’m done. I think?” He closed the notebook and tossed it onto the coffee table. “Okay, we will need some salt and some blood.”
“Salt, got it! Blood?”
“Hold on…” Landry flu into the kitchen and back out again with the salt before Duncan could finish. “Okay, I have the salt but you’ll have to provide the blood, mate.” Landry pulled a knife he’d gotten while in the kitchen out of his pocket. “We will only need a little.” He handed Duncan the knife.
“Fine.” Duncan grimaced as he sliced his palm open. “Okay now what?”
“Here, let me make a circle with the salt around Maya.” Landry ran around Maya’s levitating body leaving a circle of salt. “Done! Now drip some of your blood onto the salt and…”
“And then what?”
Duncan reached out his bleeding hand and dripped blood onto the salt circle.
Suddenly, the salt circle turned a blood red color and started to glow. Maya’s body slowly floated back down to the floor.
“Okay, now that was freaky,”
“Indeed mate, but it seemed to work.” Landry entered the red circle and quickly bent down next to Maya.
Duncan grabbed the notebook and quickly starting reading as much as possible. “How much of this did you read, Landry?”
“Just the first page.”
